I have a Guide Point System unit that needed to be upgraded from G2 to a G3 system. I spoke to guide Point's recommended installer and was quoted a price for the installation (which I was told would take about 30 minutes).

I subsequently received an email from Guide Point and it stated that the installation was a flat rate of $150 for the upgrade installation which was considerably more than what I was told when I contacted Autohaus. I contacted Guide Point and asked again if there was a lower rate and was told that they do not control the installation charges - that's left up to their dealers.

I then called an installer I have used on multiple occasions and asked if he could install the unit for me. They said "sure" bring your car in and we'll take care of it for you. I did, and they installed the unit in 15-20 minutes and for 1/2 the price that I was quoted. They did a quality job and stand behind their work. The installer I used has been around for many years and they are located in San Jose near the SJ airport.

"Upgrading the unit" only requires changing the control module (no wiring needed as the existing wiring is the same for the G3 as the G2 unit).
